title
AN ORDINANCE approving a transit service funding agreement with the city of Seattle.
body
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. Strategy 6.3.1 of the King County Metro Transit Strategic Plan for Public Transportation 2011-2021, adopted on August 30, 2013, identifies partnerships with local jurisdictions and businesses as a potential revenue source to support transit service.
2. On November 3, 2020, Seattle voters approved Seattle Proposition 1, a transit funding measure authorizing a fifteen hundredths of one percent sales and use tax increase for six years to support transit service in the city of Seattle.
3. In accordance with the strategic plan objective to secure sustainable funding for short-term transportation needs, and consistent with the Metro transit department’s commitment to equity and ensuring transit works for those who need it most, the Metro transit department and the city of Seattle are prepared to enter into a fully revenue-backed service agreement to provide city financial support for transit service in the city of Seattle.
4. This agreement would replace the existing Transit Service Funding Agreement by and between King County and the City of Seattle, approved by Ordinance 17978 and entered into November 24, 2015.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Transit Service Funding Agreement by and between King County and the City of Seattle, in substantially the form of Attachment A to this ordinance, is hereby approved.
