Call to Order
The Metropolitan King County Council Committee-of-the-Whole meeting was called to order at 9:54
a.m. by Madam Chair Sullivan.

 
Roll Call
Present: Ms. Sullivan, Mr. von Reichbauer, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Pelz, Mr. McKenna, Mr. Constantine, Mr.
Gossett, Mr. Irons and Ms. Patterson
Excused: Ms. Edmonds, Ms. Lambert, Mr. Pullen and Ms. Hague

 
1. Additions to the Council agenda of June 3, 2002
Proposed Motion 2002-0256 was placed on the Metropolitan King County Council agenda for
introduction and referral to the Budget and Fiscal Management Committee.

 
2. Approval of Minutes of May 28, 2002
Councilmember von Reichbauer moved to approve the meeting minutes of May 28, 2002 as presented.
The motion passed.

 
Special Recognition

3. Recognizing Tahoma High School for placing first in the state and fourth in the nation in the
"We The People" competition, demonstrating their superior knowledge of the U.S. Constitution,

the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Councilmembers David Irons and Julia Patterson read and presented the special recognition to
Tahoma High School for placing first in the state and fourth in the nation in the "We The People"
competition, demonstrating their superior knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of
Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Stephanie Davis, Teacher, Stefanie Waldron, Unit 3, Aimee Craig, Unit 1, Andy Bauer, Unit 5, Emily
Walters, Unit 5, Lance Bishop, Unit 5, David Knotts, Unit 5 and Kathy Hand, Coordinator, thanked
the Committee and made a presentation of to show the Committee what they do.

A MOTION authorizing an interlocal agreement between King County and the city of
Sammamish for lifeguard services for Pine Lake park swimming beach.
Mike Reed, Council Staff, briefed and answered questions from the Committee.

Kurt Triplett, Council Relations, King County Executive's Office, answered questions from the
Committee.
 
A motion was made by Mr. Irons that this matter be Recommended Do Pass. The motion carried
by the following vote:
Votes: Yes: 6 - Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Constantine, Mr. Gossett, Mr. Irons and Ms. Patterson
No: 0
Excused: 7 - Mr. von Reichbauer, Ms. Edmonds, Ms. Lambert, Mr. Pelz, Mr. McKenna, Mr. Pullen
and Ms. Hague

 
Other Business
Madam Chair Sullivan informed the Committee, for Councilmember Lambert, of the Homeland
Security Informational meeting that was held in the Goat Hill parking lot just south of the King County
jail on Jefferson Street between 5th and 6th Avenues at 11:30 a.m.

 
Adjournment
There being no further business to come before the Committee, the meeting adjourned at 10:36 a.m.
