Reports on Special and Outside Committees

 

 

1.

 

 

 

 

Ms. Edmonds briefed the Council on the Board of Health. At its recent meeting, the Board received
updates on infectious disease efforts. Ms. Edmonds indicated there have been no reports of
contraction of the West Nile Virus in humans in Washington State. The Public Health Department
received a one million dollar federal grant to fight chronic diseases, and King County is one of seven
urban areas in the country to receive this grant. The Board also reviewed the budget process and
had a briefing on changes to Title 10 in response to a state mandate.

Mr. von Reichbauer thanked the members who participated in the American Heart Walk on
September 20th. He indicated that participation from King County was the best ever and expressed
appreciation and thanks to staff members Marilyn Kihara and Brooke Caddock for their efforts.

Mr. Phillips also made congratulatory comments on the American Heart Walk and gave special
thanks to Mr. von Reichbauer for his involvement.
