Reports on Special and Outside Committees
2.
Ms. Edmonds reported on the Seattle-North King County Transportation Board (SeaShore) meeting
of May 19. The Board's primary topic was RTID, acknowledging that the business community in
their poll indicates it is unlikely there will be campaign support for the current project list. The
Board also discussed the SR522 corridor, and had a report from Sound Transit regarding its high
capacity transit vision.

Mr. Phillips briefed the Council on the Tri-County Executive Committee regarding what is
happening with the ESA listing and whether to count hatchery fish.

Mr. Phillips reported on the Watershed Resource Inventory Area 8 Forum. The Forum adopted its
work program and budget and will move forward to continue its work with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service.

Mr. Phillips commented on the Town Hall Meeting at Lake Forest Park and the discussion regarding
public health services in King County. The members had a report from state health department
officials, as well as Dr. Alonzo Plough, Director of Public Health, regarding the challenges ahead
for the department and what is happening with funding. Mr. Phillips indicated that approximately
125-150 people from the community were in attendance and a number of them spoke.
Ms. Edmonds thanked the Chair and the members for participation in the Town Hall meeting in her
district.

Ms. Edmonds reported on the recent Board of Health meeting. The Board had a report from Kathy
Cahill, Senior Advisor for Strategy and Innovation, Centers for Disease Control, regarding long
range planning and public health news. The Board discussed the relationship between the local
Board of Health and the federal government and how to work better to secure attention from the
federal government regarding needs of local jurisdictions in serving their residents. Ms. Edmonds
indicated the Board had a report from Patrick Libbey, Executive Director, National Association of
County and City Health Officials.

Mr. Pelz briefed the Council on the May 20th Sound Transit meeting. Sound Transit continues to
define the alignment for light rail going north from downtown. He indicated the Board discussed the
RTID and the status of discussions regarding a joint ballot between Sound Transit and RTID. He
stated the polling indicates that the public is not excited about a massive vote on a transportation tax
increase and it would be better to educate the public more.

Mr. Pelz reported on the Sound Transit Central Link Oversight Committee which is charged with
monitoring the progress in building light rail in Seattle. The committee had a well received
presentation on safety features.
