Mr. Irons reported on the Greater Maple Valley Area Council meeting of October 4, 2004. The
Council's agenda included the Maple Valley annual model train show, their fundraiser, which will take place later this year. The Council also had an update on the critical areas ordinances. Mr. Irons also reported on the October 8, 2004 Eastside Transportation Partnership meeting. The group discussed recommendations on how the ETP would allocate unspent money for Sound Transit. The group also had updates on SR520 and the Alaska Way viaduct. The ETP discussed bringing legislators together for a meeting in December, and its membership and the City of Seattle's interest in becoming a member. The ETP rewrote its bylaws to include another entity becoming a non voting member. The ETP also discussed potential changes to Sound Transit routes and sent a letter of recommendation. Ms. Edmonds reported on her attendance at the Washington State Association of Counties Conference. WSAC adopted its legislative agenda at the Conference. Some of the primary issues were law and justice funding and the reform of mental health service delivery. WSAC also adopted the third annual joint legislative proposal between the Association of Washington Cities, The Washington Association of County Officials and Washington State Association of Counties. The members also elected officers for WSAC. Next year's officers include Betty Sue Morris, commissioner from Clark County, Dean Burton, commissioner from Garfield County and Glen Huntingford, commissioner from Jefferson County. Ms. Patterson also commented on the Washington State Association of Counties Annual Conference, indicating the breakouts included learning ways to reduce costs in our jails, transportation and reducing health care costs. Mr. Phillips reported on the Watershed Resource Inventory Area 8 Steering Committee meetings of September 22 and October 6, 2004, which were to finish up work on publishing the draft public review version of the conservation plan which will be coming out shortly. It encompasses many cities in King County. Mr. Phillips also reported on the Cedar River Council. The Council discussed the expansion of Highway 18, a subject of some controversy. The Council had a report from Washington State |
Department of Transportation regarding filling of wetlands. The Council also had an update on the
Landesburg mine and its substantial threat of contamination to the Cedar River. The Council will be hosting an open house for public review of the conservation plan on November 16. |
