      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  A.  Section 3 of this ordinance proposes that the King County Code be amended to reflect the current fee charged by the department of judicial administration for handling the research of legal case records, as stated in RCW 36.18.016(10).
      B.  This fee is assessed pursuant to RCW 36.18.016(10).
      SECTION 2.  Ordinance 10645, Section 1, and K.C.C. 4.75.010 are each hereby amended to read as follows:
      Purpose.  The purpose of this chapter is to authorize the department of judicial administration to assess a handling fee for reimbursement of actual costs incurred by the county for the research of legal case records.  This service fee is in addition to the fee currently provided for in ((RCW 36.18.020(16): "for searching records for which a written report is issued there shall be a fee of eight dollars per hour.")) RCW 36.18.016(4), which sets the fee for copies of legal case documents, with or without seal, at two dollars for the first page and one dollar for each additional page.  RCW 36.18.016(10) further allows that for "services such as . . . performing historical searches, compiling statistical reports, and conducting exceptional record searches, the clerk may collect a fee not to exceed twenty dollars per hour or portion of an hour."
      SECTION 3.  Ordinance 10645, Section 2, and K.C.C. 4.75.020 are each hereby amended to read as follows:
      Fee.  The fee for handling the research of legal case records shall be (($7.00))
 
twenty dollars per hour, to cover actual costs beyond the cost recovery provided for in RCW ((36.18.020(16))) 36.18.016(4).
