Title
A MOTION related to the transfer of retired vanpool vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments to meet the needs of low-income, seniors or young people or people with disabilities; and rescinding Motion 16394.
Body
WHEREAS, King County provides transit services to its residents to increase mobility options and reduce traffic congestion and related environmental degradation, and
WHEREAS, the provision of passenger vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments serving individuals with limited resources and mobility options can support those goals and provide significant public benefits, and
WHEREAS, high-quality passenger vans retaining value and utility are periodically retired from the county's vanpool program, and
WHEREAS, the metropolitan King County council has previously transferred retired vans to agencies serving low-income, seniors, disabled and young people, and
WHEREAS, K.C.C. 4.56.100 states that each year, "the Metro transit department shall make available retired passenger vans for exclusive use by nonprofit organizations or local governments that are able to address the mobility needs of low-income, seniors or young people or people with disabilities," and
WHEREAS, K.C.C. 4.56.100 states that nonprofit organizations or local governments that are allocated a van must use the van to transport low-income, seniors or young people or people with disabilities or to transport goods or supplies, including, but not limited to, food, clothing, school supplies or medical equipment, to serve the needs of low-income, seniors or young people or people with disabilities, and
WHEREAS, one of the organizations named in Motion 16394 has indicated that it will not be able to accept delivery of the van it was allocated, and
WHEREAS, the King County council wishes to rescind Motion 16394 so that the unused van from the 2023 allocation can be reallocated to a different organization;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
A. Motion 16394 is hereby rescinded.
B. The transfer of a retired vanpool passenger van to each of the following agencies in 2023 is hereby approved:
Acres of Diamonds;
Adult and Teen Challenge (also known as Teen Challenge International Pacific Northwest Centers Oregon);
Auburn Food Bank;
Auburn School District (for the Auburn International Welcome Center);
Backpack Brigade (formerly known as Seattle Central Area Food Programs);
Black Coffee Northwest Grounded;
City of Kirkland;
Empowering Youth & Families Outreach;
Filipino Community Center (also known as Filipino Community of Seattle);
Haitian Christian United Church;
International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (also known as Celebration Foursquare Church);
It Takes a Village AMSA Edition (through fiscal agent Sustainable Seattle);
Lambert House;
Lifelong - Health for All;
Muslim Association of Puget Sound (also known as MAPS);
Nomad Boxing Club;
Overlake Service League, Inc. (also known as Bellevue LifeSpring);
Pacific Islander Community Association of Washington;
