A MOTION acknowledging receipt of the report on the department of public defense's assigned counsel hourly rates in accordance with the 2023-2024 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 19546, Section 17, Proviso P5.

                     WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 19546, Section 17, Proviso P5, requires the executive to transmit a report on the department of public defense's assigned counsel hourly rates, and

                     WHEREAS, the report includes the following:

                     1.  A market analysis comparing the hourly rates paid by the department of public defense with the hourly rates paid other jurisdictions in Washington;

                     2.  An analysis of whether the current rates paid to assigned counsel impact the ability of the department to attract qualified assigned counsel; and

3.  Recommendations on whether any hourly rate for outside counsel should be increased, and

                     WHEREAS, the executive is further required to file the report and a motion that acknowledges receipt of the report by July 31, 2023;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The council hereby acknowledges receipt of the report on the department of public defense's assigned counsel hourly rates, which is Attachment A to this motion, in

accordance with the 2023-2024 Biennial Budget, Ordinance 19546, Section 17, Proviso P5.
