STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. Battery energy storage systems play a crucial role in modern energy supply by providing efficient and flexible storage for electricity generated from renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power. They help address the intermittent nature of these sources by storing excess electricity during times of low demand and releasing it when demand is high. This enhances grid stability and reliability when implemented on a region-wide scale, and increases the reliability of electricity supply for individual uses when installed to back up consumer-scale renewable energy generation systems.
2. By making renewable energy sources more reliable, battery energy storage systems can help King County meet its Strategic Climate Action Plan goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the county by eighty percent by 2050.
