AN ORDINANCE authorizing the King County executive to enter into a lease for six thousand square feet of office space in the Walthew building, located at 123 Third Avenue South in the city of Seattle to house the office of the public defender and the veterans' assistance program of the department of community and human services.

      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  Findings:
      A.  The King County veterans' assistance program and office of the public defender are part of the department of community and human services.
      B.  The veterans' assistance program and office of the public defender have been located at 123 third avenue south in Seattle for the past ten years.  
      C.  The rental rate will be thirteen thousand dollars per month for the entire term of this lease.  The lease commences on January 1, 2007, and concludes December 31, 2011.
      D.  This lease agreement represents no change in the approved staffing, work program, budget or physical location.
      E.  In accordance with K.C.C. 4.04.040, the King County council may adopt an ordinance permitting the county to enter into contracts requiring the payment of funds from the appropriation of subsequent fiscal years.
      SECTION 2.  The King County executive is hereby authorized to execute a five-year lease, in substantially the form attached to this ordinance, at the following location: six thousand square feet located at 123 Third Avenue South in the city of Seattle.  The effective date of this lease is January 1, 2007.  The space will be used by the department
