PREAMBLE:
King County has determined that significant historic and archaeological properties should be preserved for the benefit of county residents, visitors and future generations (K.C.C. chapter 20.62).
King County has made a policy determination that adverse impacts to historic and archaeological properties significant in the history of the county shall be mitigated in accordance with county Comprehensive Plan policies P-216 to P-219, under the state Environmental Policy Act, K.C.C. chapter 20.44 and other county regulations including K.C.C. chapter 20.62.150.
Federal undertakings in King County are subject to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (16 U.S.C. 470), and require mitigation of adverse impacts to cultural resources.
The mitigation requires professional expertise and oversight by cultural resource managers.
The mitigation measures supported by this fund may be conducted before, during or after actual implementation of the project causing the adverse effects, and at locations other than the project site.
Mitigation of adverse impacts furthers the preservation of significant historic and archaeological properties and their benefit to the residents of King County
