AN ORDINANCE authorizing the county executive to enter into an interagency agreement with Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs relating to the Washington state methamphetamine initiative.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1.  Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs were awarded a grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services ("COPS").
2.  The grant is for the purpose of providing a program to address the epidemic of clandestine methamphetamine production and related social-economic problems statewide.
3.  The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs feels methamphetamine production has reached epidemic growth that has outstripped state and local resources.
4.  Chemicals and waste products associated with the production of methamphetamine pose significant environmental hazards and health threats to citizens of King County.
5.  The county wishes to avail itself of a portion of the grant funds obligated by the COPS office.
6.  King County has participated in this program since 2002 with great success.
      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  The county executive is authorized to execute an interagency agreement, substantially in the form attached to this ordinance, for the purpose of
 
providing a focused, comprehensive and proactive approach to aggressively attack the methamphetamine problem in King County.
