A MOTION authorizing the executive to accept a donation of up to ten thousand dollars from the Department of Social and Health Services in support of the Elder Abuse Conference to be held September 13, 14 and 15, 2004.

WHEREAS, King County department of judicial administration is conducting a statewide Elder Abuse Conference to train law enforcement and prosecutors on recognizing and responding to elder abuse, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Social and Health Services ("DSHS"), a public entity with no contractual obligations with the DJA, has a vested interest in educating law enforcement on the serious issue of elder abuse, and
WHEREAS, DSHS voluntarily, without coercion or inducement, wished to donate between five and ten thousand dollars to the Elder Abuse Conference, and
WHEREAS, this donation will legitimately enhance the county's ability to serve in the public's interest and the knowledge gained at the conference by attendees will benefit the elderly throughout Washington state, and
WHEREAS, this donation is intended neither to influence a particular county action, nor to affect the performance of official duties and responsibilities by the DJA staff, and
WHEREAS, King County government is a charitable organization as defined by the federal Internal Revenue Service and King County as an entity can accept gifts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The King County department of judicial administration is authorized to accept a
donation of up to ten thousand dollars from the Department of Social and Health Services.
