title
A MOTION approving the facilities management division report, titled Feasibility Study - Relocate and Backfill Work Release, and supporting the conclusion that King County is best served by not pursuing an alternative at this time of relocating and backfilling the courthouse space currently occupied by the King County work release program in response to a proviso outlined in Ordinance 14812, Section 2.
body
WHEREAS, the recent study completed by the executive, titled Feasibility Study - Relocate and Backfill Work Release, has complied with the requirements as set forth in Ordinance 14812, appropriating $1.2 million to allow the executive to proceed with the second phase of the initiative to construct a new King County office building, and
WHEREAS, that report concluded that it is currently not cost effective to move the work release program from the King County Courthouse, and
WHEREAS, the facilities management division has, in preparation of that report and in conjunction with the department of adult and juvenile detention and independent consultants, completed a feasibility study of moving the work release program, and
WHEREAS, the results of this study indicate that the cost of relocating and backfilling the courthouse space currently occupied by the work release program would far exceed the cost of placing those backfill functions in alternative office space, and
WHEREAS, the study concludes that relocating the work release program should only be considered if there are no other courthouse opportunities for functions requiring weapons screening and other heightened security measures;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The King County report, titled New County Office Building Feasibility Study - Relocate and Backfill Work Release, that recommends not move the work release

program at this time, in response to the provisos related to Ordinance 14812, Section 2, is hereby approved.
