A MOTION authorizing the executive to accept a donation of radio modem equipment to the King County sheriff's office in support of the Boulevard Park area patrol deputies.

      WHEREAS, the use of radio modems by King County sheriff's office patrol deputies in the unincorporated area of Boulevard Park will enhance deputy safety and productivity in the field, and
      WHEREAS, radio modems will enable patrol deputies to check for stolen vehicles and run other records checks without using the limited and crowded radio air time, thus allowing true emergency and dispatch use of the airtime, and
      WHEREAS, the Beverly Park community council, a nonprofit public service organization with no contractual relationship with the county, recently raised funds to provide equipment to various local public safety agencies and community groups, and
      WHEREAS, the Beverly Park community council understands the need for radio modem equipment, and
      WHEREAS, the Beverly Park community council voluntarily, without coercion or inducement, wishes to donate up to five thousand dollars in radio modem equipment, and
      WHEREAS, this donation will legitimately enhance deputy safety and productivity and is a general offer to the King County sheriff's office Boulevard Park patrol deputies, and
      WHEREAS, this donation is intended neither to influence a particular county action nor to affect the performance of official duties and responsibilities by King County sheriff's deputies, and
      WHEREAS, King County government is a charitable organization as defined by the federal Internal Revenue Service and King County as an entity can accept gifts;
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
 
      The King County sheriff's office is authorized to accept a donation of up to five thousand dollars in radio modem equipment.
