A MOTION requesting the executive to fulfill the requirements of the purchase and sale agreement of the Peterson lake property, to pursue discussions to secure private funding for improvements to the site and to transmit an ordinance changing the name of the site to "Walter E. Griffin park natural area."

WHEREAS, in 1996, King County purchased approximately one hundred fifty acres known as the "Peterson lake property" from Agnes Griffin under the Waterways 2000 program for conservation and passive recreation purposes, and
WHEREAS, King County agreed as a part of the real estate purchase and sale agreement between Agnes M. Griffin and King County (Recording No. 9606101882) to seek a name change of Peterson lake to Griffin lake and to seek a change in state fishing regulations to limit fishing on Peterson lake to catch and release only, and
WHEREAS, in 1999, the executive developed a site management plan for the Peterson lake property, now called the Peterson lake park natural area, which contains proposals to preserve and enhance this natural area and improve public access for passive recreation, including catch and release fishing, and
WHEREAS, Agnes M. Griffin would like to donate considerable funds to develop improvements to the natural area including trails, floating docks and an interpretive kiosk and signage, and establish an endowment to maintain the site, and
WHEREAS, King County is in need of additional funding to develop and maintain its parks and natural lands and should seek private funding opportunities that will maximize and supplement tax revenues;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
