A MOTION appointing a qualified city of Newcastle resident to a vacant position on the Newcastle city council.

                     WHEREAS, the Newcastle city council is made up of seven positions, with members each serving four-year terms, and

                     WHEREAS, Position 4 on the Newcastle city council is currently vacant, and

                     WHEREAS, RCW 42.12.070 describes the process for filling a vacancy on local governing bodies, and

                     WHEREAS, RCW 42.12.070 provides that, in case of a vacancy, remaining members of the local governing body shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy within ninety days of the occurrence of the vacancy, and

                     WHEREAS, RCW 42.12.070 provides further that, if the local governing body does not fill the vacancy within ninety days, its authority to fill the vacancy ceases, and the county legislative authority shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy, and

                     WHEREAS, the Newcastle city council has not filled the city council vacancy within the specified ninety-day period,

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     In accordance with RCW 42.12.070, and after considering the background of the

candidate, the King County council hereby appoints Chris Villasenor to fill Position 4 on the Newcastle city council.
