BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1.
A. The executive shall establish a fellowship pilot program for persons who served as an interpreter or translator for United States military personnel for a period of at least one year between October 7, 2001, and December 31, 2023. The fellowship will assist those seeking to learn job skills with or without an accompanying education program. Priority in selection will be given to persons who have relocated to King County after January 1, 2021, as part of the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa program or the humanitarian parole program.
B. The fellowships program shall consist of two paid temporary positions, either short-term or term-limited. Selected fellows shall be employed up to one year either on a part-time or full-time work schedule.
C. A fellow shall be an employee of the department of human resources. Similar to the Vets 4 HIRE program, the fellow shall have a structured learning immersion experience. Fellowship opportunities should be offered in a variety of fields and levels within in other executive departments and divisions. A fellow may be assigned to another branch of county government with the written approval of the presiding elected official or designee of that branch. While assigned to another executive department or division or another branch of county government, the fellow shall be subject to the administrative supervision of that other department or division or branch. Each executive department or division or other branch of county government shall reimburse the department of human services for the cost of the fellow for the period the fellow is assigned to that department or division or branch.
