title
AN ORDINANCE approving September 2020 public transportation service changes for King County.
body
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
The proposed changes to the Metro transit department's fixed route transit network include changes that affect service in the cities of Algona, Auburn, Burien, Covington, Kent, Maple Valley, Pacific, Renton, SeaTac, Seattle and Tukwila and portions of unincorporated King County.
2. The proposed changes are consistent with the policy direction and priorities in Ordinance 18301, enacted June 16, 2016, via which the King County executive and council adopted the 2015 update to the King County Metro Strategic Plan for Public Transportation 2011-2021 and associated Service Guidelines.
3. The service guidelines direct the Metro transit department to reduce duplication of service where routes overlap or serve common destinations.
4. In 2019, the Metro transit department conducted public outreach concerning proposed changes to service in the Renton-Kent-Auburn area of King County currently provided by Routes 105, 148, 157, 158, 159, 164, 166, 168, 169, 180, 192, 906, 908, 910, 913, 914, 916 and 917.
5. The proposed service changes would eliminate Routes 158, 159, 164, 166, 169, 180, 192, 908, 910, 913 and 916, reinvest savings to create new Routes 160, 161, 162, 165 and 184 and expand service on Routes 105, 906 and 917.
6. The proposed service changes would modify the routing of Routes 148, 157, 168, 906, 914 and 917.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The September 2020 public transportation service changes for King
County, substantially as described in Attachment A to this ordinance, are hereby approved and shall be implemented effective September 19, 2020.
