Title

AN ORDINANCE amending the code to allow for the assessment and collection of fees for data dissemination requests of King County district court records; and adding a new section to K.C.C. chapter 4A.634.

Body

STATEMENT OF FACTS:

1.  The King County district court has begun to receive data dissemination requests as it is in the process of switching from using the state of Washington's Judicial Information System and is in the process of transitioning to its own case management system.  The court expects to receive additional requests upon completion of the migration to such system.  The court anticipates that this body of work will be undertaken by court management and a programmer or programmers.

2.  The state of Washington has long charged fees for those data dissemination requests.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:

SECTION 1.  Section 2 of this ordinance authorizes the King County district court to assess and collect a fee for data dissemination requests of requested publicly accessible district court records.

NEW SECTION.  SECTION 2.  There is hereby added to K.C.C. chapter 4A.634 a new section to read as follows:

The district court is hereby authorized to assess and collect a fee for evaluation, research or programming, of one hundred fifty dollars per hour, with a one-hour minimum assessed, and an administration fee of fifty dollars per report, for data dissemination requests of publicly accessible district court records data.  The district

court is hereby authorized to assess and collect twenty-five cents per page in administrative costs for paper or electronic copies of requested documents or reports.
