AN ORDINANCE renaming Sixty Acres park in honor of Washington state Senator Andy Hill, to recognize his service, dedication and profound influence as a coach, mentor, leader and elected official.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. Andy Hill was born on October 12, 1962, in Denver, Colorado.
2. Andy Hill received a bachelor's degree in physics and computer science from Colgate University and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. He worked at Microsoft for eleven years.
3. Andy Hill, along with his wife, Molly, and children, Allie, Charlie and Katie, made Redmond his home. He became an engaged community member and volunteer, serving as an officer for the Emily Dickinson Elementary School parent teacher student association and as a board member for the Evergreen Health Foundation.
4. Andy Hill was particularly engaged as a coach and mentor for student athletes in his community. He coached youth soccer and lacrosse and was a volunteer board member and officer for the Lake Washington Youth Soccer Association for ten years.
5. Andy Hill was particularly engaged with Sixty Acres park in Redmond, leading the efforts to implement a public-private partnership to develop nine new athletic fields at the park.
6. Andy Hill was elected to the Washington State senate in 2010 and reelected in 2014 to represent the 45th district in east King County.
7. While in the Washington state Senate, Andy Hill chaired the senate's Ways and Means committee and led the development of the state budget. Two of his most important achievements as a state senator were developing the vulnerable individual protection act, which protects seniors and people with developmental disabilities, and leading the effort to lower tuition at Washington state colleges and universities.
8. State Senator Andy Hill passed away on October 31, 2016, after a battle with lung cancer.
