Title

A MOTION relating to the King County Charter, confirming the executive's appointment of members of the charter review commission in accordance with Section 800 of the King County Charter.

Body

                     WHEREAS, the King County Charter was adopted in accordance with the Constitution of the state of Washington in order to form a more just and orderly government, establish separate legislative and executive branches, insure responsibility and accountability for local and regional county governance and services, enable effective citizen participation, preserve a healthy rural and urban environment and economy and secure the benefits of home rule and self-government, and

                     WHEREAS, the King County Charter has served as the cornerstone of King County government during the almost fifty years since it was originally approved by the voters, and

                     WHEREAS, in order to meet the present day needs of King County government and its citizens, the charter provides for a citizen commission to be assembled every ten years for the purpose of reviewing the charter and presenting, or causing to be presented, to the county council a written report recommending those amendments, if any, which should be made to the charter, and

                     WHEREAS, the charter specifies that the commission shall be composed of at least fifteen citizen members with at least one citizen representative from each of the county council districts, and

                     WHEREAS, executive appointees to the commission are subject to confirmation by a majority of the county council;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The county executive's appointment of each of the members of the charter review commission identified in Attachment A to this motion is hereby confirmed.
