A MOTION approving a report prepared by the King County department of transportation in coordination with the department of natural resources and parks and the department of permitting and environmental review, to evaluate and report on how to enhance the bicycle network within unincorporated King County and address identified regional and local infrastructure needs, as required in the King County Comprehensive Plan 2016 Update, Attachment A to Ordinance 18427.

                     WHEREAS, in 2016, the King County Comprehensive Plan 2016 Update, Attachment A to Ordinance 18427 required evaluation of existing King County planning efforts and possible areas for improvement, such as addressing bicycle facility provisions in:

                     1.  Roadway designs and standards, including the lighting standards;

                     2.  Plat approvals;

                     3.  Commercial developments;

                     4.  Parks and trails planning; and

                     5.  Transit planning and access to transit, and

                     WHEREAS, the report will include evaluation of bicycle and/or active transportation plan elements of other jurisdictions, including city of Seattle, for opportunities to connect to King County planning and active transportation facilities, and

                     WHEREAS, preparation of the report will include working with stakeholders for identification of needs and areas for possible improvements; and

                     WHEREAS, the executive must file the report and the motion as required in Attachment A to Ordinance 18427 by December 31, 2017, in the form of a paper original and an electronic copy with the clerk of the council;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The report entitled Bicycle Network Planning Report, included as Attachment A to this motion, is hereby approved.
