Title
A MOTION related to the transfer of retired vanpool vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments to meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young county citizens.
Body
      WHEREAS, King County provides transit services to its citizens to increase mobility options and reduce traffic congestion and related environmental degradation, and
      WHEREAS, the provision of passenger vans to nonprofit agencies and local governments serving individuals with limited resources and mobility options will support those goals and provide significant public benefits, and
      WHEREAS, high-quality passenger vans retaining value and utility are periodically retired from the county's vanpool program, and
      WHEREAS, the metropolitan King County council has previously transferred retired vans to agencies serving low-income, elderly, disabled and young people, and
      WHEREAS, K.C.C. 4.56.100 states that "each year the transit division shall make available retired passenger vans for exclusive use by nonprofit organizations or local governments that are able to address the mobility needs of low-income, elderly or young people or people with disabilities";
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      The transfer of a retired vanpool passenger van to each of the following agencies is hereby approved:
      Auburn Food Bank;
      Black Diamond Community Center;
      Camp Berachah;
      Cascade Leadership Challenge;
      City of Enumclaw Parks & Recreation;
      City of Renton;
      City of Shoreline;
      Community Network Council;
      Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC);
      El Centro de la Raza;
      Federal Way Boys and Girls Club;
      Friendship Adventures;
      Graham Hill Elementary School;
      Issaquah Senior Center;
      Life Enrichment Options;
      Lifelong;
      Mamma's Hands;
      Operation Nightwatch;
      Pacific Asian Empowerment Program;
      Small Faces Child Development Center;
      Southwest Youth and Family Services;
      Sweet Pea Cottage;
      Vine Maple Place;
      Young Women Empowered (Y-WE);
      Youth Eastside Services; and
      YWCA.
