AN ORDINANCE establishing the date for an election on the question of increasing the number of commissioners serving the Pierce county fire protection district no. 22; and declaring an emergency.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. Findings:
A. RCW 52.14.015, as amended by Chapter 174, Laws of 2012 (Senate Bill 5766), allows the board of commissioners in a fire protection district with an annual budget of ten million dollars or more to request an election within the district to submit to the voters the proposition whether the board of commissioners shall be increased from five to seven commissioners, whenever the Board determines by resolution that it would be in the best interest of the district to do so.
B. The law further notes that the board of commissioners from such a fire district shall submit a resolution to the county legislative authority in which the district is located requesting that an election be held to determine the number of commissioners. Upon receipt of the resolution, the legislative authority shall call a special election to be held within the fire protection district.
C. The board of commissioners for Pierce county fire protection district no. 22, which encompasses a portion of King County, has determined by resolution that it is in the best interest of the district to increase the number of commissioners and has submitted this resolution to the King County council, as required under RCW 52.14.015, requesting that the proposition increasing the board of commissioners from five to seven members be placed before the voters.
SECTION 2. The proposition, in substantially the following form in accordance with RCW 52.14.015, shall be included within the measures to be voted on at the special election to be held on November 5, 2013, by vote of the resident electors of Pierce county fire protection district no. 22.
