Title
A MOTION appointing Larry Jensen, who resides in council district nine and within the service area of fire district 28, to serve as a commissioner in position number 2 for fire district 28.
Body
WHEREAS, fire district 28 is authorized to provide fire protection and emergency services to an area of approximately sixty square miles that includes the city of Enumclaw and the surrounding unincorporated area, and
WHEREAS, the commissioner serving in position 3 resigned from the board effective June 10, 2013, and
WHEREAS, the commissioner serving in position 2 was seriously injured in an accident and his wife, pursuant to a power of attorney, has submitted his resignation effective July 17, 2013, and
WHEREAS, as a result of the two resignations, fire district 28 has two vacant commissioner positions of the three commissioner positions authorized, and
WHEREAS, it is essential that there be at least two commissioners to conduct the business of the board of commissioners of fire district 28, and
WHEREAS, RCW 42.12.070 gives the county legislative authority the duty to appoint a commissioner for fire district 28 when there are two vacancies on the board, and
WHEREAS, position 2 will be filled by election at the November 2013 general election and it is appropriate to give the voters of the district the earliest ability to select a new commissioner to take the place of the appointee, and
WHEREAS, Larry Jensen, who resides in council district nine and within the service area of fire district 28, is willing to serve as a commissioner for the district;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
A. Larry Jensen is hereby appointed as a commissioner in position number 2 for fire district 28.
B. The term of this appointment shall last until a successor is elected and qualified.
