Title
A MOTION expressing King County's support for a shared regional vision for a growing, diversified, innovative and sustainable economy.
Body
      WHEREAS, on October 19 through 21, 2011, the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce sponsored its annual Leadership Conference in Suncadia Washington, and
      WHEREAS, the theme of the Leadership Conference was prioritizing regional goals and shared values, and
      WHEREAS, following two days of discussions, presentation and workshops participants developed a shared vision of the regional economy, and
      WHEREAS, a total of ninety-one leaders signed the shared regional vision.  These leaders represented the business community, organized labor, nonprofit organizations, governments, environmental interests, education, multicultural interests and other community leaders;
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      A.  King County endorses and supports the shared regional vision developed under the leadership of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce in partnership with leaders in labor, government, industry and the community, which is Attachment A to this motion.
      B.  King County supports the following statement of the shared regional vision:  "We envision a region that leads the world in growing a diversified, innovative and sustainable economy that improves social justice, improves the environment and improves the bottom line.  The resources provided by that vibrant economy will allow us to create rewarding jobs, sustainable growth and development, environmental protection, an outstanding quality of life and exceptional opportunities for all.  The following is our shared commitment:
        1.  We commit to a future where actions across sectors prepare all students for college, career and lifetime success.
         2.  We commit to a future where we build and maintain our infrastructure in order to move people and goods quickly and safely, enhance the environment and secure a competitive edge.
        3.  We commit to a future where we develop creative funding tools and strong accountability measures to finance well-conceived and well managed regional priorities.
        4.  We commit to a future were we show regional pride and celebrate our strengths and achievements.
        5.  We commit to a future were we value participation, we consider diverse viewpoints and factual data, then make decisions and stick to them.
        6.  We commit to a future were we celebrate and benefit from the diversity and multiculturalism that is a distinguishing strength of our region.
        7.  We commit to a future where we are a recognized center for global leadership and dynamic international activity.
        8. We commit to a future where we attract and develop the best and brightest workforce through our innovation, competitiveness and creativity."
