A MOTION adopting the 2012 King County Strategic Climate Action Plan in accordance with Ordinance 17270, Section 2.

      WHEREAS, the King County council adopted Ordinance 17270, calling for the executive to develop and transmit by June 29, 2012, a strategic climate action plan and a motion adopting the plan, using the King County Strategic Plan as the organizing framework, and
      WHEREAS, with this motion the executive has transmitted to the council the plan as called for in the ordinance, and
      WHEREAS, the plan focuses on county operations and activities that the county can influence through its direct operations, and integrates and refines current policies, plans, interlocal collaborations, and performance measures, and
      WHEREAS, the plan includes the following elements required by Ordinance 17270:  1) the identification of specific objectives, strategies and priority actions for reducing emissions and addressing the impacts of climate change; 2) functionally related strategies, program activities, and targets from the 2010 Energy Plan adopted by Motion 13368; 3) performance measures and related targets for operational emissions and other priority strategies; 4) review of other climate plans and incorporation of relevant strategies into this plan, including identification of any opportunities for partnerships with cities; and 5) incorporation of relevant strategies, activities and performance targets identified as part of the King County Strategic Plan 2010-2014, and
      WHEREAS, the Strategic Climate Action Plan will guide county operations and inform decision making for King County, and
      WHEREAS, when transmitting legislation relating to transportation, the environment, or energy, the executive is requested to identify how the legislation supports the objectives and strategies of the Strategic Climate Action Plan;
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      The 2012 King County Strategic Climate Action Plan prepared in accordance with the Ordinance 17270, Section 2, Attachment A to this motion, is hereby adopted.
