Title
A MOTION adopting the 2012 work program for the law, justice, health and human services committee.
Body
WHEREAS, the law, justice, health and human services committee is charged with considering and making policy recommendations relating to:
1. Law, safety, criminal justice and emergency management programs including, but not limited to, those related to: public safety; the sheriff’s office; adult detention; juvenile justice and youth services; superior and district courts; judicial administration; prosecuting attorney; public defense; therapeutic courts; emergency medical services; emergency management, including disaster response, emergency preparedness and emergency planning;
2. Public health programs, including, but not limited to, those related to the protection, promotion and provision functions of the department of public health, including the structure of the public health centers; and
3. Human services programs, including, but not limited to: mental illness and chemical dependency; homelessness and homeless housing; and civil rights and social justice, and
WHEREAS, the committee shall also consider the implementation of appropriate labor agreements, and
WHEREAS, in the areas within the committee's purview, the committee shall track state and federal legislative action and develop recommendations on policy direction for the 2013 annual budget, and
WHEREAS, the committee has, therefore, developed a work plan for 2012 to facilitate its review and development of policy options and recommendations on these and other issues, and
WHEREAS, the work of the law, justice, health and human services committee centers on two major goals of the adopted King County strategic plan:
1. Supporting safe communities and accessible justice system for all; and
2. Promoting opportunities for all communities and individuals to realize their full potential, and
