A MOTION establishing 2003 federal legislative agenda for King County.
Body
WHEREAS, the metropolitan King County council and the King County executive have worked through the joint King County legislative steering committee to develop a federal legislative agenda and desire to bring their positions on issues facing the United States Congress to the attention of the 108th Congress, and
WHEREAS, King County desires to work cooperatively with other local governments and other partners at the local, state and federal level in the development of a 2003 (FY 2004) federal agenda, and
WHEREAS, King County is committed to ensuring that dislocated workers in this region have access to retraining and job placement services, and
WHEREAS, congestion is an urgent matter and in King County has become increasingly worse and remains the primary threat to the long-term mobility and health of King County citizens and businesses
WHEREAS, as a result of the tragic events of September 11, we must continue to seek ways of improving our emergency preparedness capabilities in the multidisciplinary areas of service King County provides its residents, and
WHEREAS, King County will continue to be advocates for intelligent habitat conservation, the protection of endangered species and smart growth, and
WHEREAS, King County is a major national urban center with associated social and health issues affecting children, families, seniors and diverse immigrant populations. King County recognizes effective programs that minimize impacts on the criminal justice system and that positively impact the overall economy and health of the area, and
WHEREAS, the King County council and the King County executive will continue to review federal legislative and appropriations developments impacting transportation for possible revisions of King County's 2003 (FY 2004) federal legislative agenda;
