Title
AN ORDINANCE authorizing the King County executive to execute an interlocal agreement with the city of North Bend to provide contract municipal police services by the King County sheriff's office.
Body
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. The King County sheriff's office provides contract police services to municipalities, the Metro transit department, Sound Transit, the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and other organizations within King County. On May 6, 2025, by a unanimous vote, the North Bend City Council authorized its leadership to enter into negotiations with King County to provide contract police services. It is estimated these services may begin as soon as April 2026.
2. To support the proposed interlocal agreement with the city of North Bend, the 2026-2027 proposed budget includes ten deputies, one detective, one sergeant, and other supportive costs that are backed by revenue from the city of North Bend. The agreement with North Bend will generate an estimated $6,001,939 in revenue during the 2026-2027 biennium, which represents the initial start-up year of 2026 and a full year's delivery of services in 2027.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The King County executive is hereby authorized to execute contract agreements, substantially in the form of Attachment A to this ordinance, with the city of
North Bend related to providing contract police services by the King County sheriff's office as specified in the interlocal agreement.
