AN ORDINANCE declaring King County's intent to conduct a public hearing regarding whether to assume rights, powers, immunities, functions, and obligations of the King County transportation district.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. The King County transportation district may be assumed by King County in accordance with chapter 36.74 RCW. Assumption of the district is consistent with the authority and responsibility assigned to the council and the executive in the King County Charter.
2. By allowing the utilization of existing county structures and staff, assumption of the transportation district by the county provides a more efficient way to administer the functions of the transportation district without unnecessarily increasing overhead and staff expenses.
3. The public interest and welfare is best served by the county assuming the rights, powers, immunities, functions, and obligations of the transportation district.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1.
A. In accordance with RCW 36.74.020, King County intends to consider whether to assume all rights, powers, immunities, functions, and obligations of the transportation district.
B. The King County council will conduct a public hearing at the King County Courthouse on _____, 2026, at ___a.m./p.m. to consider the proposed assumption of the transportation district, at which time all persons interested in the proposal may appear and
be heard by testifying in accordance with the council's rules of procedure for public hearings.
