A MOTION acknowledging receipt of a report regarding pretrial reform, in compliance with the 2019-2020 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 18835, Section 19, Proviso P3.

                     WHEREAS, the 2019-2020 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 18835, Section 19, Proviso P3, requires the executive to transmit a motion and report regarding pretrial reform in King County, and

                     WHEREAS, the attached report was produced by a workgroup convened by the office of performance, strategy and budget and included representatives from the department of public defense, the prosecuting attorney's office, the superior and districts courts, the department of adult and juvenile detention, the council, the department of judicial administration and community and nonprofit organizations working to reduce pretrial incarceration, and

                     WHEREAS, the attached report includes analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the number of adults held pretrial in King County correction facilities and why they are held, and

                     WHEREAS, the attached report includes recommendations to reduce the number of nonviolent pretrial adults held in King County correction facilities and to improve collection and integration of King County data related to pretrial detention;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The receipt of a report relating to pretrial reform in King County in compliance with the 2019-2020 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 18835, Section 19, Proviso P3, which is Attachment A to this motion, is hereby acknowledged.
