Title

A MOTION making an appointment to fill the vacancy in the position of state Representative for the 33rd Legislative District.

Body

                     WHEREAS, a vacancy will exist in the position of state representative for the 33rd legislative district due to the passage of Motion 16707 appointing a 33rd legislative district state representative to serve as state senator for that legislative district ("the vacancy"), and

                     WHEREAS, Article II, Section 15 of the Washington state Constitution prescribes the process for filling vacancies in either house of the state legislature, and

                     WHEREAS, the candidates must reside in the 33rd legislative district and be of the same political party as the legislator whose office is being vacated, and

                     WHEREAS, the 33rd legislative district Democratic Precinct Committee officers have met to consider candidates for the position, and

                     WHEREAS the King County Democratic Central Committee has submitted the names of three constitutionally qualified candidates to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the current term as well as to fill the vacancy that will exist as of January 13, 2025.

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     Edwin Obras is hereby appointed to the position of state representative for the 33rd legislative district in the Washington State House of Representatives for the remainder of the current term as well as to fill the vacancy that will exist as of January

13, 2025.  Edwin Obras shall continue to serve until a successor is elected at the next general election and the successor has qualified.
