A MOTION to support the recommendation to the Washington state Board on Geographic Names for the naming of a creek in the city of Issaquah after Harvey Hope.
Body
WHEREAS, the unnamed stream located in the city of Issaquah is a tributary of Issaquah Creek, and
WHEREAS, a proposal to name the creek Hope Creek was submitted to the Washington state Board on Geographic Names on behalf of the family of Harvey Hope, a longtime resident and property owner of the land where the creek is located, and
WHEREAS, the creek has been the subject of an extensive restoration effort, to address concerns related to habitat and flooding, and
WHEREAS, the restoration effort has been led by the family of Harvey Hope, with support from the city of Issaquah, the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust and local hydroengineering consultants, and
WHEREAS, the restoration effort has resulted in the reconnection of the creek to Issaquah Creek, the rehabilitation of important salmon habitat and the correction of chronic flooding concerns, and
WHEREAS, the Washington state Board of Geographic Names will consider a recommendation to name this stream Hope Creek in honor of Harvey Hope, whose family was so instrumental in the restoration effort, and
WHEREAS, the Washington state Board of Geographic Names has invited the county to comment upon the naming recommendation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
In recognition of the efforts and dedication of the Hope family in restoration of
the creek in question, the council hereby indicates its support for the naming of this unnamed stream, located in the city of Issaquah, Hope Creek.
