Title
A RESOLUTION to approve the King County On-Site Septic System Management Plan.
Body
WHEREAS, Washington's marine areas are precious natural resources to be protected, and
WHEREAS, in July 2005, the Washington state Board of Health adopted chapter 246-272A WAC, requiring local health officers to development plans for the management of on-site sewage disposal systems within their jurisdictions, and
WHEREAS, in 2006, the Washington state Legislature adopted legislation, codified in chapter 70.118A RCW, requiring local health jurisdictions of the twelve counties that border Puget Sound, including King County, to identify Marine Recovery Areas where on-site sewage disposal systems contribute to marine water quality problems or threaten shellfish beds, and to develop management strategies to identify and repair failing on-site sewage disposal systems with the Marine Recovery Areas, and
WHEREAS, the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health convened a Marine Recovery Area work group to make recommendations for an on-site sewage disposal system management plan in accordance with chapter 246-272A WAC and chapter 70.118A RCW, including identification and recommendation of Marine Recovery Areas, communication strategies and educational outreach activities, and
WHEREAS, the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health, with the guidance and recommendations of the Marine Recovery Area workgroup, has prepared the King County On-Site Septic System Management Plan - July 2007 to implement the aforesaid mandates of the Washington state Board of Health and Washington state Legislature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Health of King County:
The King County On-Site Septic System Management Plan - July 2007, Attachment A to this resolution, is hereby adopted.
