Title
A MOTION related to the transfer of retired vanpool vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments to meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young county citizens.
Body
WHEREAS, King County provides transit services to its citizens to increase mobility options and reduce traffic congestion and related environmental degradation, and
WHEREAS, the provision of passenger vans to groups serving individuals with limited resources and mobility options will support those goals and provide significant public benefits, and
WHEREAS, high-quality passenger vans retaining substantial value and utility are periodically retired from the county's vanpool program, and
WHEREAS, the metropolitan King County council has previously transferred retired vans to agencies serving low-income, elderly, disabled and young people, and
WHEREAS, the council provided for the transfer of twenty-seven additional vans in the 2004 Metro transit division budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The donation of a retired vanpool passenger van to each of the following agencies is hereby approved:
Bellevue, City of (Parks and Community Services),
Boys and Girls Club of North Seattle,
Catholic Community Services,
Community Day School Association,
Environmental Learning Center,
Fauntleroy Children's Center,
Federal Way Boys and Girls Club,
Highline Area Food Bank,
Friends of Youth,
Greater King County Police Activities League,
History House,
Kent Youth and Family Services,
Kirkland Boys and Girls Club,
Korean Women's Association,
Latino Friendship Center,
Northwest Center,
People of Color Against AIDS Network,
Seattle Young People's Project,
Seattle Youth Garden Works,
