AN ORDINANCE authorizing the King County executive to enter into an interlocal agreement with Snohomish county for medical examiner services.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1.  The King County medical examiner's office is responsible for conducting autopsies on individuals who died in King County as a result of suspicious or violent circumstances.
2.  There are occasions where an individual dies in King County, typically Harborview Trauma Center, as a result of a potentially criminal violent incident that occurred in Snohomish county.
3.  The Snohomish county medical examiner is responsible for conducting inquests into potential criminal cases resulting in death that occurs in Snohomish county.
4.  There is a need to have an interlocal agreement between King County and Snohomish county to clarify procedures and responsibilities for medical examiner services in such instances as described above.
      BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
      SECTION 1.  The King County council hereby authorizes the King County executive to enter into an interlocal agreement with Snohomish county for medical examiner services, substantially in the form of Attachment A to this ordinance.
