AN ORDINANCE adding new members to the King County citizens' elections oversight committee; and amending Ordinance 14711, Section 2.
Body
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
SECTION 1. Ordinance 14711, Section 2, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Membership - appointment process, requirements and restrictions.
A. The committee shall consist of ((nine)) thirteen voting members. The members shall be appointed by the executive from nominations submitted by the chair of the council. The appointments shall be subject to confirmation by the council.
B. Membership shall include:
1. ((o))One representative from each of the following:
a. ((t))The Municipal League((,));
b. The League of Women Voters((,));
c. ((t))The King County Democratic Party((,));
d. The Washington state Democratic Party;
e. ((t))The King County Republican Party((,));
f. The Washington state Republican Party;
g. The Libertarian Party;
h. ((t))The Office of the Secretary of State ((and));
i. ((a))A King County school district; and
j. The Chinese-speaking community; and
2. ((t))Three King County registered voters.
C. All nominees should have:
1. Substantial working knowledge of local or state government elections operations and management;
2. A strong commitment to an accountable, transparent, well-managed and efficient elections operation in King County; and
3. A willingness to commit the time necessary to attend committee meetings and activities.
D. A nominee or appointee shall not hold or be a candidate for elected office, except that precinct committee officers may serve on the committee.
E. For the purpose of serving on this committee, members need not be residents of King County;
F. The chair of the council shall submit nominations to the executive. The executive shall transmit to the council ((nine)) thirteen appointments to the committee by July 31, 20...
