A MOTION declaring the intent of King County to approve the agreement for the Eastside Transportation Partnership; committing to staffing support for its continuation through 2005; clarifying its membership and representation; and authorizing the executive to enter into an agreement to further the purposes of this board.

WHEREAS, the King County and the cities in King County have a long history of multi-jurisdictional transportation planning, and
WHEREAS, in 1987 King County participated in a nine-party interlocal agreement with the cities of Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, Issaquah and Redmond, Metro, the Puget Sound Regional Council and the Washington state Department of Transportation to form the Eastside transportation program and provide contributions for the preparation of a comprehensive plan for transportation improvements and programs for the Eastside, and
WHEREAS, upon completion of this work in 1991, King County undertook responsibilities for providing staffing support for the renamed Eastside Transportation Partnership, which continues through the present, and
WHEREAS, the Eastside Transportation Partnership has been given responsibility for building consensus and providing input into the King County Metro Six Year Transit Development Plan, King County Metro transit service priorities, project submittals for federal funds and changes to the Sound Move Plan, and
WHEREAS, the Eastside Transportation Partnership has been effective in providing productive forums for discussion, information sharing and consensus building, and
WHEREAS, the existing agreement for the Eastside Transportation Partnership expired at the end of 2002, and
WHEREAS, significant transportation needs continue to exist that can be addressed effectively by the Eastside Transportation Partnership, and
WHEREAS, King County recognizes the importance of the Eastside Transportation Partnership and supports its continued functioning;
