A MOTION acknowledging receipt of a plan to address the needs of vulnerable jail residents as they transition from prerelease to postrelease services, in accordance with the 2026-2027 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 20023, Section 51, Proviso P2.

WHEREAS, patients in King County jails often have multiple co-occurring health conditions, including chronic illnesses, disabilities, mental and behavioral health conditions, and more, and
WHEREAS, patients in King County's jails also often have multiple intersecting health-related social needs such as affordable housing, stable employment, access to food and more, and
WHEREAS, unaddressed health and health-related social needs can contribute to the cycle of homelessness, substance use, crime and incarceration, and
WHEREAS, public health - Seattle & King County's jail health services division is committed to building stronger systems and partnerships to support people leaving jail to have a clear path to recovery and stability to break that cycle;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The receipt of the Plan to Address the Needs of Vulnerable Jail Residents as They Transition from Prerelease to Postrelease Services, Attachment A to this motion, in
accordance with the 2026-2027 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 20023, Section 51, Proviso P2, is hereby acknowledged.
