Title
A MOTION requesting the executive to propose policies to guide the development and use of electric vehicle charging stations at county facilities.
Body
      WHEREAS, fossil fuel vehicles emit greenhouse gasses and contribute to global climate change, and
      WHEREAS, fossil fuels are limited in supply and eventually societies will eventually need to find alternative fuels, and
      WHEREAS new technologies are making electric vehicles economically feasible to produce and own, and
      WHEREAS, owners of electric vehicles will need charging stations where they can recharge the batteries of their vehicles, and
      WHEREAS, King County operates park and ride lots as well as other facilities that could serve as electric vehicle charging stations, and
      WHEREAS, King County agencies will incur costs to develop and operate electric vehicle charging stations, and
      WHEREAS, King County is in difficult financial circumstances and may need to recover some or all of the costs of developing and operating charging stations, and       WHEREAS, there needs to be a policy framework for the development and operation of electric vehicle charging stations;
      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
      The executive is requested to propose policies to guide the development and operation of electric vehicle charging stations located on property owned or leased by King County.  The policies should, among other matters, consider the need for recovery

of costs to development and operate charging stations.  The executive is requested to propose these policies in legislation transmitted to the council by October 1, 2009.
