Title

A MOTION approving the King County youth diversion and intervention program report required by 2026-2027 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 20023, Section 108, Proviso P1, related to employment and education resources.

Body

                     WHEREAS, the goal of youth diversion is to intervene with young people, address the needs that led to behavior that caused harm, put them on a path to success, and avoid additional or escalating criminal legal system involvement, and

                     WHEREAS, King County provides a range of paths for legal-system-involved youth, including community-based diversion through the youth diversion and intervention program, juvenile court diversion, community supervision through juvenile probation counselors, and adjudication of offenses and incarceration.  The prosecutor will make referrals to the appropriate program or level of response based on the number of prior law enforcement referrals and the seriousness of the alleged offenses, and                     WHEREAS, the 2026-2027 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 20023, Section 108, Proviso P1, related to employment and education resources, requires the executive to transmit a King County youth diversion and intervention program report, and

                     WHEREAS, the proviso further requires the executive to submit a motion that approves the report;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The King County youth diversion and intervention program report, which is Attachment A to this motion, in compliance with 2026-2027 Biennial Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 20023, Section 108, Proviso P1, related to employment and education resources, is hereby approved.
