Title

A MOTION authorizing the chair of the King County council to sign letters to the chairs and vice chairs of the Washington state Senate and House of Representatives Transportation Committees, the Senate Ways and Means committee, and the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee related to the county's priorities in the state budget.

Body

                     WHEREAS, counties have been recognized by the state Legislature as partners with the state in the delivery of such critical services as public health, transportation, public safety, behavioral health, affordable housing, and water quality, and

                     WHEREAS, King County's ability to deliver critical services is directly impacted by budget and policy decisions made by the Legislature, and

                     WHEREAS, the King County council and the King County executive identified priority issues that will help the county provide essential services and sought to bring these issues to the attention of the 2026 Washington state Legislature through passage of Motion 16906, which established King County's 2026 state legislative priorities, and

                     WHEREAS, the state Legislature is currently negotiating supplemental transportation and operating budgets that will impact programs county residents rely upon;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     The chair of the King County council is authorized to sign the joint letters with the executive to state legislative leaders outlining the county's priorities in the state budget attached as Attachment A and Attachment B to this motion.
