Title
A MOTION related to addressing the structural budget gap facing King County through consultation and collaboration with represented employees' organizations.
Body
WHEREAS, state law constrains the county's ability to increase its revenues, and
WHEREAS, the growth in costs to maintain King County services outpaces revenue growth such that the county is facing a structural budget gap, and
WHEREAS, the structural budget gap will likely require significant reductions in general government operations, and
WHEREAS, the members of the metropolitan King County council are committed to working with represented employees' organizations and other interested stakeholders to formulate a plan of action to address this fiscal problem, and
WHEREAS, addressing the structural budget gap in a sustainable manner will require the combined efforts of the local and state elected officials as well as employees, represented employees' organizations, the media and other community leaders;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
A. The county council recognizes the importance of represented employees' organizations in delivering quality county services and programs to the citizens of King County, and
B. The council recognizes that participation of represented employees' organizations before and during budget deliberations is critical to effective resolution to the fiscal challenges facing the county, and
C. Toward that end, the council will work cooperatively with represented employees in addressing the anticipated structural budget gap facing King County.
