A MOTION related to the transfer of retired vanpool vans to nonprofit organizations and local governments to meet the needs of low-income, elderly, disabled and young county citizens.

WHEREAS, King County provides transit services to its citizens to increase mobility options and reduce traffic congestion and related environmental degradation, and
WHEREAS, the provision of passenger vans to groups serving individuals with limited resources and mobility options will support those goals and provide significant public benefits, and
WHEREAS, high-quality passenger vans retaining substantial value and utility are periodically retired from the county's vanpool program, and
WHEREAS, the metropolitan King County council has previously transferred retired vans to agencies serving low-income, elderly, disabled and young people, and
WHEREAS, K.C.C. 4.56.100 states that "each year the transit division shall make available retired passenger vans for exclusive use by nonprofit organizations or local governments that are able to address the mobility needs of low-income, elderly or young people or people with disabilities";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The donation of a retired vanpool passenger van to each of the following agencies is hereby approved:

Bridge Disability Ministry
