Title
A MOTION relating to the potential Ravensdale site acquisition preliminary plan.
Body
WHEREAS, community stakeholders in southeast King County have been seeking opportunities for active recreation facilities to support the needs of the fast-growing communities in that part of the county, and
WHEREAS, the parks and recreation division of the department of natural resources and parks is governed by a council-adopted business plan, which requires the division to limit the acquisition of additional facilities that would result in substantial additional operating costs for the agency in subsequent years, and
WHEREAS, an opportunity to acquire an eight-acre parcel next to Ravensdale park for active recreation has recently arisen, and
WHEREAS, community interests in southeast King County expressed interest in a partnership with the county whereby those interests would assume responsibility for operations of the park, and
WHEREAS, the 2004 Budget Ordinance, Ordinance 14797, included a proviso directing the department of natural resources and parks to submit a report to the council detailing a plan to develop, operate and maintain a potential eight acre acquisition adjacent to Ravensdale park, and
WHEREAS; the executive has transmitted to the council the Potential Ravensdale Site Acquisition Preliminary Plan, and
WHEREAS, the preliminary plan proposes acquisition of the property by the county and maintenance by the Maple Valley Rotary Club in an undeveloped status through 2007, including litter control, site monitoring, overall safety and environmental observation, reporting and management, and
WHEREAS, the preliminary plan further recommends the implementation of a capital development plan in 2007 in accordance with the parks and recreation division's Association Development and Operating Partnerships program, including a soccer complex featuring two synthetic soccer fields, parking, paths and associated facilities, a...
