A MOTION declaring the council's determination to retain services for federal lobbying and authorizing the chair to take all appropriate action.

Body

                     WHEREAS, the council has an interest in advancing the council's legislative priorities before the federal government, and

                     WHEREAS, previously, the council has shared federal lobbying services with the King County executive's office, and

                     WHEREAS, the council has determined that a federal lobbying contract specific to the council would protect the interests of county residents by providing effective representation before Congress and federal agencies to assist the council in securing resources, advancing policy objectives, and protecting the interests of county residents, and

                     WHEREAS, King County entered into Contract KC001093 with Washington 2 Advocates, with an effective start date of September 1, 2024, and which was extended through August 31, 2026, and

                     WHEREAS, under Contract KC001093, Washington 2 Advocates provides services to both the legislative and executive branches, and

                     WHEREAS, the executive has determined to use another federal lobbying consultant;

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:

                     It is the policy determination of the King County council to extend Contract KC001093 with Washington 2 Advocates to provide federal lobbying services only for the council for at least one more year, in accordance with the terms of the contract.  To effectuate the council's determination, the council chair is authorized to negotiate, prepare, and execute all necessary contract amendments with Washington 2 Advocates.
