Title
AN ORDINANCE relating to the establishment of countywide fleet standards for light duty and general use cars and trucks, and adding a new section to K.C.C. chapter 4.56.

STATEMENT OF FACTS:
1. King County owns and operates over two thousand light-duty vehicles, including transit nonrevenue vehicles.
2. These vehicles are managed by various county divisions, including fleet administration, transit, solid waste and the King County international airport.
3. Expanding upon and standardizing the collaborative management practices utilized by county fleet managers will result in countywide vehicle maintenance and replacement efficiencies and cost savings.
4. Having common fleet standards, including uniform routine maintenance and replacement programs, can facilitate shared resources between agencies and reinforce a sustainable and efficient fleet maintenance strategy.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KING COUNTY:
NEW SECTION. SECTION 1. There is hereby added to K.C.C. chapter 4.56 a new section to read as follows:
A. Fleet administration shall annually identify countywide fleet standards for cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and other nonrevenue vehicles. These standards shall apply to fleets managed by the fleet administration, solid waste, transit and airport divisions and shall be developed as follows:
1. The fleet managers of the fleet administration, solid waste, transit and airport divisions shall annually review the inventory of cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and any other nonrevenue vehicles identified to be replaced in the coming year. The fleet managers shall assign a standard for each class of vehicle. If a vehicle meeting the standard is not available through an existing procurement contract, the fleet managers shall collaborate to determine the best method of procurement of the vehicle.
