A MOTION authorizing the county executive to enter into an interagency agreement with Pierce County Alliance relating to the Washington state methamphetamine initiative.

WHEREAS, the Pierce County Alliance was awarded a grant from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), and
WHEREAS, the grant is for the purpose of providing a program to address the epidemic of clandestine methamphetamine production and related social-economic problems statewide, and
WHEREAS, the Pierce County Alliance and King County feel methamphetamine production has reached epidemic growth that has outstripped state and local resources, and
WHEREAS, chemicals and waste products associated with the production of methamphetamine pose significant environmental hazards and health threats to citizens of King County, and
WHEREAS, the county wishes to avail itself of a portion of the grant funds obligated by the COPS office;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT MOVED by the Council of King County:
The county executive is authorized to execute an interagency agreement, substantially in the form attached to this motion, for the purpose of providing a focused, comprehensive and proactive approach to aggressively attack the methamphetamine problem in King County.
